The new Oak Park River Forest Museum, a landmark built in 1898 as a firehouse, features changing exhibits on the area’s history, including an exploration of Oak Park’s welcoming legacy of racial diversity. The museum also has a hands-on Children’s Corner and a public research centre.

“The Oak Park River Forest Museum opened in 2017 with the goal of collecting, preserving, and retelling the stories of the people and villages of Oak Park and River Forest and surrounding areas from the beginning of recorded history to the present.” This designated Oak Park Landmark features a restored interior, a public research centre, and regular programs and exhibits that tell the stories of the unique villages of Oak Park and River Forest.
